Day 1: North Bound

Day 1: North Bound

We finished loading and hit the road this morning at 9 am. Jacquie did an amazing job with getting us stocked with food and all the necessities for the trip. The most complicate step was getting the right combination of bikes on the bike rack. After several attempts, the difficult decision was made to leave our spare bike behind. After about an hour on the road, Timo realized he forgot his cycling shoes! So far, no other missing items.

This first leg to Prince George was a beautiful drive through the Fraser Valley, into the Fraser Canyon to the high ranch country of central BC. Our support vehicle, a 2007 motor home handled the climb with no problems. We have the use of this vehicle courtesy of Timo’s son. Big thanks to Joseph!  It’s a 2,855 km drive from Abbotsford to Dawson City, the gateway to the Dempster Highway, our starting line.

I want to give a shout out of appreciation to the owner of the Abby Bike Shop, Dao Tran. Besides giving great service on my bike, yesterday when I stopped to pick up a couple extra tire tubes, he handed me a generous donation toward a well! Thank you, Dao!
