Day 25: Canmore to Strathmore – 151 KM

Day 25: Canmore to Strathmore – 151 KM

We said goodbye to the “Three Sisters” this morning at about 7:30 as we left Canmore. Rob’s ankle was painful and inflamed again so he became Lyndon’s assistant in the support vehicle. As you can see from this photo, this day does not have the sunshine of yesterday. In fact, after we reached the 40 km mark, it started to rain and continued all day!

It was clear we had moved into a new landscape as we approached Calgary.  Gone are the mountains. We moved into big sky country, the foothills/prairie region of Alberta.

A highlight of the day was our media connections. Rob did a phone interview with the Chestermere newspaper. CTV requested an interview in Calgary with Mike just before lunch. When we arrived in Strathmore, a reporter took some shots to go with the interview he did with Mike earlier in the week.

Gabe left the team after lunch to connect with his brother and family for the afternoon and dinner, which left Mike and Timo to finish the ride for the day. The ride through Calgary was daunting with the rain, traffic and construction.

Lyndon and Rob picked Mike and Timo up in Strathmore to return to Calgary where Monique hosted us for dinner and provided an ice cream cake to celebrate Rob’s birthday. After dinner we shared our Cycling 4 Water vision with the group at First Alliance Church. Thank you Monique and First Alliance crew!
