Day 39: Upsala to Thunder Bay – 131 KM

Day 39: Upsala to Thunder Bay – 131 KM

Fall is in the air! This morning it was 5 degrees when we were getting ready to head out. The sun soon lifted the temperature to a very enjoyable level for the day.

Roller coaster might describe our day, lots of rolling hills. We also had a head wind but because to twist, turns, ups and downs of the road it did not have the impact that head winds did in the prairies. Plus today we had all four of our team cycling for drafting.

A greater impact on the day was the narrow shoulders in sections of our ride. Narrow and even cracked shoulders called for total concentration especially with traffic filled with large transport trucks.

A couple milestones today… We crossed into the Eastern Time zone and we crossed in the Atlantic watershed. We are headed to the Atlantic and so is all the water around us.

A short ride allowed us to visit to the local pool for showers and even a dip in a hot tub/sauna. Our hosts for parking and an event was Saalem Church, a Finnish heritage congregation. In fact, tonight Mike did the presentation with Timo translating it into Finnish.  A big thank you to the Saalem Church for their hospitality.
