Day 14 – Kitwanga to Smithers – 105 km

Today we were warmly welcomed by the wonderful people of Zion Baptist Church in Terrace. Mike spoke of the ride and the cause – GAiN providing clean drinking water through their deep-caped wells.

Mike went to the hospital for further tests and observation for his injury from the fall a few days earlier. The rest of the team drove to Kitwanga where we started our 100 km afternoon ride. It was mostly uphill. The biggest change was cycling through more inhabited areas instead of the remote areas of the Yukon and Northern BC.

John Hartman from Smithers joined in cycling the last 50 km with us on his ebike – the second rider to accompany the team. Timo and Rob stopped early to get to a meeting with people from Smithers EFC church. John and Gabe finished the ride together showing up just over an hour later. We were very touched as two young children, who came to learn about us, gave of their own money for the wells.

John and Jenny kindly hosted us for the second time over night . The first time was when we were driving north to start the ride. See Northward Bound/Decision Day – July 21, 2021.
