Day 32: Moosomin to Wawanesa – 151 KM

Day 32: Moosomin to Wawanesa – 151 KM

Pastor John, from the Moosomin Baptist Church was our host in Moosomin. His wife was a way, so he underhandedly fed us dinner and breakfast! Thank you Pastor John.  We were on the bikes at 7:30 am. The theme of our cycling today was wind, wind and more wind! The weather app said 25 km/hour and with gusts up to 35 km/hour all coming at us as a head wind. This picture of a flag gives you a visual of the wind!

A milestone of the day was crossing into Manitoba.

Later in the day, we left the trans-Canada and headed south toward Winkler. It was a relief to be away from the traffic of Hwy 1! Tuk was even willing to ride on the back of Timo’s bike when we left the busy highway.

Cycling against the wind gives no option for coasting. As you can imagine, the amount of energy exerted is significantly more when riding against the wind as we did all day. We hit the 150 Km mark after being on the road for 11 hours including breaks and lunch. We were out of energy and time, so the support vehicle did the last 20 km of the day for us.

We kept reminding ourselves, “This is hard, but it would be a lot harder to watch your children or grandchildren die if they didn’t have clean water.”
