Day 4: Carmacks to Fox Lake – 110 KM

Day 4: Carmacks to Fox Lake – 110 KM

Our Carmacks camp site was on the shore of the Yukon River. Our ride out of town started with a cloudy sky and a steady climb to a plateau area. Early into the day, the clouds gave way to a bright sunny day!  Other than power lines there was very little sign of civilization.  We passed many small lakes.

The wind, like yesterday, was against us for most of the day. One of the very difficult moments was a 6 KM hill climb with the wind pushing against us. I had to remind myself, “This is hard but it would be a lot harder to which your children die if they did not have clean water.”

During the day we set pre-arranged spots to connect with our support vehicle for a snack or lunch. We are always excited when we see the “lunch wagon” parked along the road waiting for us.

The reward at the end of the day was our camping location: Fox Lake Provincial Park.  What a beautiful place. It is the third night out of four that our “shower” was a dip in the river or lake. We camped on the point that you can see in this picture.
