Yukon

Yukon

We arrived in the Yukon today and headed northwest on the Alaska Highway. It was a beautiful day. Since we left Prince George, it’s been very green and thankfully no sign of forest fires unlike southern BC.

About 70 km from our destination, Whitehorse, we jumped on our bikes to cycle into the city. Some of you have heard me say my vision for this ride is “sun in my face and wind at my back.” Today we had that! It was a great ride.  Our average speed was just over 29 km per hour. A good pace for 4 grandfathers! Had some great views. We are really looking forward to reaching our starting point on Sunday and starting this epic ride on Monday.

Facts about Whitehorse . It was founded during the Klondike Gold Rush (1897–98) as a staging and distribution centre. The Guinness World Records lists Whitehorse as the city with the least air pollution in the world. It is the capital of the Yukon and has a population of just over 25,000.

Tomorrow our destination is Dawson City, the new starting point for our ride.
