Northward Bound/Decision Day

Northward Bound/Decision Day

Our overnight host, Esther and Tapio made us a wonderful breakfast and sent us on your way.

Our first stop was a gas station. Filling the almost 200 litre gas tank sure makes us appreciate the generosity of our sponsors! Their sponsorship will cover our road expenses so that all funds raised will go directly to Global Aid Network’s well-drilling efforts. Thank you sponsors!

Today is a big decision day! The NWT travel restrictions website indicated a new order would be announced today. It was, and unfortunately our hopes of making it to the Arctic Ocean and Tuktoyuktuk will not be realized because the restrictions have been extended. Plan B is to start in Dawson City, Yukon, and attempt the Dawson City to Arctic Ocean ride in late September after we reach Halifax.

Our departure date from Dawson City will be Monday, July 26th. The drive to get to this starting line is 2900 km (1812 miles) from my home in Abbotsford. That’s like driving from Vancouver to Thunder Bay Ontario.

Tonight we will be staying in Smithers, BC, located in the traditional territory of the Wet’suwet’en nation. Our hosts John and Jenny were so kind. John is a cyclist; he cycled across Canada in 2017 and is going to join us as a guest cyclist for a day on our way back down.
