Day 5 – Cycling Companions
Because Timo was speaking at a church in Thunder Bay on Sunday and I was speaking in a church in Dryden, we were not together on Monday. The original plan was that I cycle the 210 km alone from Dryden to Upsala. But Patrick, whom we met on Saturday, is accompanying me to Thunder Bay, and Del also joined us for the first 150 km. We had a bit of a headwind throughout the day. I tried to imagine cycling this alone. It is so much easier when you have the assistance of drafting companions. Thanks so much Pat and Del.
We lost our wide shoulders early on in the day and this is frequently what we have to live with.
We had a special surprise. Sandra, who in 2014 patched and stitched my cycling jersey which had been torn in my bike accident, saw us on the road and pulled over to say, “Hello.” I only thought later that I should have taken a photo.
We meet such wonderful people along the way including in Upsala, where we were warmly greeted by Paul and Gaye Beebe and their wonderful community at Lang Lake Farms who fed us, listened to our presentation and gave to the cause.
Paul Beebe is actually somewhat famous. He is known for his handmade custom knives: especially filet, carving and hunting knives.
